DOG AND DOG-FRIENDLY PARKS
Sarasota County offers two types of areas where you and your dog can walk and play. They are categorized as either “Dog Parks” or “Dog-friendly Parks.”
Dog Parks (also known as paw parks) are areas where dogs can play and exercise off-leash in a fenced area specifically designed for such use, under the supervision of their owner. The off-leash dog parks managed by Sarasota County are located at 17th Street Park, Lakeview Park, and Woodmere Park. In addition, South Brohard Beach Paw Park offers an off-leash beach area for dogs.
Dog-friendly Parks include parks, preserves, and trails where dogs are welcome within the designated areas but must be kept on a hand-held, maximum 6-foot leash at all times.
Dog Restrictions
Dogs are not allowed in playgrounds, athletic fields, or other areas not designated for dogs on leash.
Dog owners are responsible for supervision and for immediately picking up after their pets.
